¿Que es un Mizuko?
Mizuko se traduce directamente como "Niño del Agua".
Los Mizuko son pequeñas estatuas que representan a niños que no han nacido. Forman parte de la tradición budista-japonesa. Existen santuarios exclusivamente dedicados a este ritual, cuyo objetivo es consolar al alma del feto y ayudar a la familia a superar la pérdida de un bebe.
Parte importante de los Mizuko es el tocado tejido que cubre sus pequeñas cabezas, generalmente rojo o naranja . En algunos casos se les agregan mantas y bufandas.
Al final me parece fascinante que un ritual que parece tan personal, se manifiesta de manera pública y visible. Sólo otro de los muchos contrastes que componen el Japón moderno, supongo.

What is a Mizuko?
Mizuko directly translates as "Water Child".
The Mizuko are small statues of unborn children. They are part of the Japanese Buddhist tradition. There are shrines dedicated exclusively to this ritual, which aims to comfort the soul of the fetus and help the family overcome the loss of a baby.
Mizuko important part is played small knitting pieces, that covering their heads, usually red or orange. In some cases they added blankets and scarves.
I find it fascinating that a ritual that appears so personal , is manifested so publicly and visibly . Just another one of the many contrasts that make up modern Japan, I suppose.
